What Are Essential Oils?

What are essential oils?  Essential oil’s are nothing new.  They have been used throughout history in many cultures for their health-supporting benefits.

The Egyptians, Greeks, Romans, Europeans, and Chinese have used them for centuries for health, beauty, fragrance, and spiritual practices.

There are also many references to essential oils in historical texts, which signifies their importance in history.

Essential Oil’s are volatile substances derived from plants, containing the natural smell and characteristics of the plant. They are extracted primarily through steam distillation.

These potent, volatile (will evaporate) and versatile oils are often called the “life blood” of the plant. They have protective properties which are the plants natural defense mechanism.

  • Are extracted from trees, shrubs, flowers, stems and seeds.
  • Do not have a shelf life. They last a long, long time.
  • They are the purest, most potent form of an herb.

There is a HUGE difference in essential oils.

Education is power when choosing essential oils.

  1. Commercial grade oils (orange oil for cleaning is an example of a commercial grade.)
  2. Fragrance/perfume grade (have added petrochemicals, not disclosed, carcinogenic)
  3. Food/flavoring grade (candy, etc)
  4. Therapeutic grade (put on your skin, safe to inhale and ingest without harm)

Only about 2% of all EO’s produced in the world are therapeutic grade, and that is what we are talking about in this online class. These are oils that you cannot find at your local health food store or grocer.

What is on the shelves at these places, I cannot vouch for.  Everything you read here will be in direct relation to Young Living’s essential oils ONLY.

The FDA requires Young Living to label their oils as either dietary and cosmetic. Young Living had to choose the PRIMARY usage for each oil, since they can be used in so many different ways.

Young Living follows the French model of essential oil usage because of the high quality of our essential oils. If in doubt about how to use an oil, it is always great to start with the primary usage on the label and then go from there as you see fit for your family.

Essential oils and our health.

Essential Oils are helpful in supporting ALL body systems – skeletal, muscular, cardiovascular, digestive, endocrine, nervous, respiratory, lymphatic, urinary, reproductive and integumentary body systems – as well as the structures and functions of the body.

A little note about frequency.

A frequency is the rate at which a vibration occurs that constitutes a wave, either in a material (as in sound waves), or in an electromagnetic field (as in radio waves and light), usually measured per second.

Our body carries a frequency that is vital in maintaining balance and bringing healthy and thriving wellness.  When our body frequency drops due to our very busy lifestyles (AND stress, worries, bugs, fatigue, etc.), we are most at risk to falling below the wellness line.  It is important for our health to maintain our frequency high!

Did you know that Essential Oils have a frequency, which works harmoniously with the human body frequency? Yes, yet another complement to our health!
