Summer Time is Blazing!
Sun protection is one of our must-haves when headed out to play in the sun. Oxybenzone, a synthetic estrogen that penetrates the skin and can disrupt the hormone system, is sitting in that bottle waiting to be absorbed by your skin and the skin of those precious children that we strive to maintain healthy in all ways!
Considering that our skin is the strongest organ system in our body, have you thought about protecting yourself from the sun by making your very own and natural sun lotion?
We can achieve this by using carrot seed essential oil, which supports our healthy skin, natural SPF and also helps maintain a healthy liver. Myrrh essential oil is a powerful antioxidant. Helichrysum essential oil is an added armor for our skin along with lavender essential oil.
Check out this easy to make and save recipe.
Natural Homemade Sun Lotion
1/2 cup coconut oil (natural SPF of 4)
2 Tablespoons zinc oxide (non-nano non-GMO, natural SPF of 20+)
20 drops carrot seed essential oil (natural SPF of 30-40)
20 drops lavender essential oil
10 drops myrrh essential oil
10 drops helichrysum essential oil (optional)
Combine all ingredients except zinc oxide in a pint-size or larger glass jar.
Coconut oil may need to be warmed slightly by placing jar in a bowl of warm water. Stir to incorporate ingredients.
When all ingredients are completely melted, add the zinc oxide, stir in well. Pour into a tube or tin you will use for storage. I like to use a squeeze tube you can find in the travel and/or toiletry aisle or any 4 oz glass jars.
Shake or stir a few times as it cools to make sure zinc oxide is mixed in well.
Use as you would regular sun lotion. Always shake well before applying. Use within six months.
